How to Train an Alaskan Malamute puppies for Sit Command
Alaskan Malamute is one of the most adorable dog breed which can be kept as a pet but unfortunately we have to train them from the early age. If they are not trained properly they can become quite dangerous because this breed is listed in the “dangerous breed list of dogs”.
Alaskan Malamute are one of the smartest and they are considered to be one of the most loyal dogs among other dog breeds.
You should always start the training with the sit command. The sit command is the easiest and the Alaskan Malamute Puppies learn this command quite easily. Always keep some amount of kibble with you. Kibble is light and the pups wont get overweight.
Sit Command Training:
When the dog is in front of you, Slowly move the piece of kibble towards the dogs head. Do it slowly so that he is able to see the treat. Take the kibble slowly towards the back of the neck/head.
When your hand goes behind the dogs head, he wont be able to see the treat that your holding. So naturally he will sit.
The time when dog sits and his bum touches the floor, say the word “SIT”
Once he does this, you should give him the treat so that he knows that he did a good thing and is being rewarded.
Repeat this several times a day for few days so that he learns this.
You should train your dog in different places so that he knows about this command and follow it.
Sit Command Training When on a Leash:
This type of training is very important for a dog because whenever we take our dog outside for walk, they are on a leash. Training a dog to sit whenever you stop is quite important. You could stop while crossing a road or you could stop due to some other danger.
Alaskan Malamute are big dogs and when a big is sitting its easier to handle. Remember that the sit command with leash will come after you have trained your dog with the first sit command.
Use the following steps for training your dog to sit when on a leash
Put the dog on leash and start walking with him.
While walking the dog stop after few steps and while stopping say the word sit.
If you’ve already tought your dog the sit command he would stop and sit.
Dont forget to reward the dog once he obeys your command.
Repeat this several times while walking in different conditions so that your dog can learn the sit command while he is on a leash.
