Coat

 

GSP are short haired dogs. The outer coat is smooth and shining. The inner coat is water resistant and keeps the dog warm.

 

Colors

GSP are found in various colors.

Black and white, liver and white, dark brown, solid liver or solid black are different colors. The head is usually a single solid color. The body is ticked with white and other color (liver or black). This ticked coat sometimes gives a saddle appearance. Ears

GSP has long, floppy ears that are rounded from edge and overall create triangular shape.

Eyes

The eyes of GSP are in dark shades of brown.

Tail

GSP has a normal length, thin tail with the white tip that is used during hunting. Tail docking is done when the tail is curled. Tail docking should only be done when it is needed.

German Shorthaired Pointer is a hunting dog, the energy level is very very high and even after a good busy day, and they still have high energy level. Only those people are advised to have GSP who are extremely sporty, outgoing and need GSP to help in the work too. GSP love to go for running. They are good swimmers too.

GSP are very loving and family oriented. They love to sleep around the owners. They are good at learning and pick things fast.

GSP is a hunting dog, so they can be busy in chasing cats, mice, rabbits or any other small animals. If they are not trained not to hunt down domestic animals, they are likely to bring the dead animals in house occasionally.

GSP are good with other fellow dogs, they are not aggressive without any reason. Those who are aggressive can be deadly.

Being alert and active, they turn out to be good watch dogs. But they don’t bark very often. They are not very social, so don’t go well with outsiders. They are sometimes shy too.

GSP don’t like to stay alone without any activity to perform. This could lead to any wrong activities like tearing house stuff and running indoor and breaking things.
