One of the world’s smallest dog breeds, the Chihuahua is currently a popular dog to own as a pet, fitting into most people’s lives easily. This dog breed is is named after a state in Mexico. And were originally bred to be companions.
The size of this dog makes you notice how small they really are, standing at 6-9 inches and weighing 1-3 KGs only.
There are two distinct coat types: smooth and short or long coat.
The coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns, either solid or a combination of two colors.
This little dog has large head which is round in shape, large round eyes and large pointed ears.
These small dogs can live for 14-18 years.
Chihuahua must be chosen with care, especially in a family situation with young children who may not be fully able to understand the temperament and behavioral needs of this breed. They are sassy, smart and somewhat stubborn dogs but when socialized and trained correctly this dog can be very loyal and loving and a joy to own. Without training you can end up with a spoilt, dominant and difficult dog. They are loyal and can become wary of strangers. They appear to be able to live with other dogs of same breed very well, but not so much with other breeds of dogs. They love human company and become quite devoted to their owners. These dogs require little exercise and seems to positively enjoy being carried around, enjoying the world from a different view. However if they don’t get any exercise or play time they may become overweight quickly. When they are frightened they tend to bark excessively which can become a problem, and may also bite when scared.
